Charles Shafer, in his memoir of life in Northeast Texas, noted that when he was young, Congressman Wright Patman seemed to speak to local residents with the voice of God?and he ?appeared about as old.?† Patman represented Northeast Texas in Washington D.C. from 1929 to 1976, and is commemorated today by the Bowie and Cass County lake that bears his name.

But what did his life and tenure say about our region?† What kind of man was he? This is a question that the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Webb Society has sought to answer in a new film about Wright Patman's life.

Eagles Baseball kicks off spring season

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº) Eagles Baseball program is off to a rocky start after losing its season openers Friday and Saturday to Hill College and Cedar Valley Community College in non-conference play.


According to Assistant Coach Shane Wedd, Friday's game was the first chance that many of the players had to play in a regular season game and, despite these early setbacks, he is optimistic about the team's potential this season.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Culinary Arts Program will host three special Buffet Nights on Thursdays this Spring. These will be held at the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Culinary School in historic downtown Pittsburg and are open to the public.


Dinners will be held†at 6:00 p.m. on†February†6th,†February†20th, and March 6th.

Tickets are still available to see Sinbad's live comedy performance at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts Friday at 7 p.m.†The show is sponsored by Guaranty Bond Bank. Tickets are $50 for rows A-B,†$35 for rows C-K, and $30 for rows L-O (no group discounts).

Offices open Saturday for registration


ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº (main campus student services) will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 11 to assist students needing to complete the registration process for the spring semester. Students will have the opportunity to speak with academic advisors, access computers to register online, make payments and receive help with financial aid.†The College Store will also be open during this time to allow students to purchase books and other supplies.†The spring semester begins Monday, Jan. 13.
