Theatre Northeast presents Butterflies Are Free

Butterflies Are Free, by Leonard Gershe, opens February 27 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ campus. In this Tony Award-winning comedy, a young blind man and the free-spirited girl-next-door discover the values of self-reliance and dependence.

The play, performed by Theatre Northeast, centers on Don Baker, a Greenwich Village newcomer who struggles to create an independent life for himself apart from his family in Scarsdale.

Eagles softball sweeps Angelina College

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles softball team added another two notches to their belt Monday afternoon, sweeping Angelina College by scores of 9-3 in the first game and 10-4 in the second.

Freshman pitcher Hailey Dixon led ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ to their first win of the day. Angelina college scored the first two runs of the game in the fourth inning and held the Eagles at bay until the sixth, when ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ scored five runs.

Eagles softball dominates Ranger College in four-game series

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ) Eagles softball team dominated Ranger College during Friday and Saturday?s four game series, improving their record to 6-2 for the season.


† † † †The first two innings of game one on Friday were stalemates, with sophomore infielder Chelcey Faglie driving in the first and only runs of the game in the bottom of the third.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Rodeo kicks off spring season

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ) Rodeo Team competed in the first rodeo of the spring season February 7 and 8 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.†The Rodeo Team had a very successful showing, with four students placing in individual events allowing the team get closer to its goal of sending representatives to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in June.††

Kolby Miller placed second in the long go during the team roping event, and placed 10th overall with Kyler Bramhall coming

February 11 weather closure

All ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ locations will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 due to winter weather. Food services WILL †be available to students who live on campus. The Mt. Pleasant Daily Tribune political forum that was scheduled for tonight is also cancelled.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ will continue to monitor the weather and will announce any further closures by 6 a.m. tomorrow if necessary.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles baseball and softball games scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed.

Eagles Softball drops two to LSU Eunice

† † † †The Bengals took a commanding lead early in the first game, scoring four†unanswered runs before the end of the second inning.†Brianna Williams scored the first run of the day for the Eagles, but is†was not enough as the Bengals scored another three runs to win the first†game 7-1.

Eagles Baseball picks up three wins against Pratt

The Eagles and the Beavers squared off for two†doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday and the Eagles won three of the four†games played this weekend.


† † † †ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ took an early lead in the second inning of the first game and went on†to pick up a shutout, 3-0, win over the Beavers.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ celebrated the service of Bill Priefert, a long-time member of the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ board of Trustees, with a retirement reception on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Priefert, of Mount Pleasant, recently retired from the board after 11 years of service. Stone sculptures on display at Whatley Center


The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ art department is currently hosting an art exhibit by stone sculptor Stacy Deslatte of Longview. The display, which runs through March 7, is featured in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ campus. The exhibit is open free to the public during regular business hours.
