Honors Northeast highlights high school standouts

Nayeli Fuentes,†Junior Class President of Mount Pleasant High School,† and†Elizabeth Griffin, a presence recently in the local theatre scene, were recognized in a luncheon at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº March 4 as regional high school standouts.

"It was inspiriting to have two students together who have done so much to raise the bar on excellence in Northeast Texas,"†Dr. Andrew Yox, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Honors Director, said.

Fuentes†has been the top student of her class of 400 at Mount Pleasant High School for some time.† She is a Sargent in the Tiger Dolls, a member of UIL math, a member of the student council, and as many juniors can attest, a lodestone for achievement in the class.

Griffin,†while a homeschooled junior, won the President?s Academic Excellence Award and the Horizon Award at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.† As a senior she has appeared in†Once Upon a Wolf,†and recently, in a major role as Annelle in†Steel Magnolias--productions of Theatre Northeast.

Presidential Scholar and President of the Honors Student Council, Tyler Reynolds of Pittsburg, congratulated both recipients, as did Professor Shirley Clay of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.† Both received gifts.

Nayeli is the daughter of Jose and Angelica Fuentes of Mount Pleasant.† Elizabeth is the daughter of Dr. Steven and Joy Griffin of Pittsburg.
