CAPPED event brings high school seniors to ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ

Communities In Schools (CIS) brought about 240 high school students to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ campus on March 21†for CAPPED (Certificate and Professional Programs Exploration Day).†

CAPPED @ ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ †is a program designed to bring high school students to ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ to learn about programs available to expedite their entry into professional careers in the workplace.† It also allows ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ faculty to showcase their programs.

Noah Griffin receives Caldwell Award for Texas History essay

At the recent Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) conference in Fort Worth, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ honors student Noah Griffin won first place in the Caldwell Award competition for the best essay in Texas History.† He received a $400 award for the honor, topping all peers in the college/university, freshman/sophomore level.† Steve Cure, the Director for Educational Services of the TSHA, remarked that there was an especially crowded field of entries this year.

Griffin is the son of Joy and Dr. Stephen Griffin from Pittsburg, Texas.

Phi Theta Kappa presents report at March board meeting

Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner, advisor for the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, presented a report to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ board of trustees Tuesday night. She shared that ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ's Alpha Mu Chi Chapter recently won 19 awards at the 2013 Texas Regional Convention in Dallas in addition being elected District III Vice President. J.T. and Kaye Brison sponsor As You Like It

J.T. and Kaye Brison recently presented a check to Carolyn Franks (right), Director of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ, to sponsor the upcoming performance of Shakespeare's†As You Like It. The national tour of the play, by the prestigious Acting Company of New York, will be presented one night only on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center. Hoppock named Alumni Ambassador by Texas A&M-Commerce



ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Professor of Theatre and Speech, Douglas Hoppock, was recently named an Alumni Ambassador by Texas A&M University-Commerce for the 2013 Alumni Ambassador Forum.




Each year, departments at A&M-Commerce choose former students return to campus for this event. It is the highest honor a department can bestow upon its alumni.

With three rodeos left in season, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ in good position for CNFR

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ men finished second overall at Texas A&M University-Kingsville rodeo and the women finished sixth. Zack Bocco took first place in the men's All-Around after earning second in both Steer Wrestling and Team Roping Heeler. Wacey Hathcock won first in the Saddle Bronc event and Kyler Bramhall took second in Team Roping Header. Dustin Jackson also placed third in Bareback Riding. In women's action, Sadie Johnson finished in third place in the Goat Tying.

Eagles baseball fights for playoff spot

With just over a month left to play in the season the Eagles currently find themselves sitting in fourth place in the NJCAA Region XIV Eastern Zone. With an overall record of 11-18 and a conference mark of 5-9, the Eagles trail Paris Junior College (6-4), Panola (9-3) and Navarro (10-2) in the race to make the Regional Tournament.

?It has been a bit of a rough season for us so far, but we are not out of the playoff picture yet,? Eagles Head Coach Josh Stewart said.
