The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Adult Education program will hold its annual General Education Development (GED) commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. All students who have completed the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ GED program during the past year will be honored. Friends and family of graduates are invited to attend. A brief reception will be held in the Whatley Center foyer after the commencement ceremony.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles Soccer player Rimario Gordon will compete in the Premier Development League (PDL) this summer. The PDL is run by the United Soccer League (USL) and is the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States. This will be the first time that a ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Student has been invited to compete in a professional development league.

The PDL is a highly competitive program with international reach which is designed to prepare students for professional soccer careers. The league has 64 teams competing in ten divisions across four conferences.

Jennifer Harland, Manager of External Affairs for AEP SWEPCO in Mount Pleasant (right) recently presented a check for $1,000 to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Vice President for Advancement. The contribution will be used to provide a scholarship for ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ's new work scholarship pilot program. For more information about scholarships, contact McCullough at 903-434-8115.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles Rodeo team hosted its annual Kids' Rodeo on April 16 at the Priefert Rodeo Complex. Each spring, elementary schools from around the area bus their Kindergarten through second grade students to†ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ†to watch an exhibition rodeo performed by the†ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ†Rodeo Team. Thousands of local school children have attended these events throughout the years. The team also hosted a special Handicapped Rodeo in the morning, which allowed special needs kids a chance to interact with the rodeo team and participate in fun events.

Does math scare you? If so, you?re not alone! Many students need extra help getting ready for college-level math classes and a new statewide initiative could help you get there sooner.

The New Mathways Project (NMP) is a statewide effort to reduce the number of developmental math courses leading to successful achievement of the college-level math credit required for a college degree.† ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ has joined the NMP along with other Texas community colleges to begin a pilot program in fall 2014.

?Traditionally, developmental math classes have focused on algebra almost exclusively.

On Friday, April 11, the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Department of Physics and Engineering hosted the first Annual Engineering Roundtable and Luncheon in the Student Union Building on campus.† The event was sponsored by the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Foundation to provide opportunities for current engineering majors and prospective engineering students from area high schools to learn more about the field of engineering.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ) softball team clinched a spot in the regional tournament this week as they split with Bossier Parish Community College Wednesday. The Eagles won four of 10 games played during an action-packed two weeks to wrap up their regular season.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles baseball team has found itself in the middle of a four-team race for one of three remaining playoff spots.††Paris Junior College has secured a playoff spot with a 15-3 record in conference play.†Ironically, all three of their losses have been to Northeast.†The Eagles have 10 conference wins.††Panola, Angelina, and Navarro are all within one game of each other.

The Eagles have eight games remaining on their schedule and all them are very important. The first contest is a doubleheader against Panola on Friday, April 18 at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ.
