Kassandra V. Martinez, a ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Honors Scholar, and Tanika Santos, a member of the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Women?s Soccer Team have become the first winners of the Bonnie Spencer Awards for superior essays in history.† Spencer, an alumna of Northeast, and the leader of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº?s first history club in 2003, established the fund that awards the prizes. She also read the submissions, and helped select the winners.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº to offer iCan Kids Discovery College this summer

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Continuing Education Department is planning a variety of fun courses for kids ages 8-15 this summer. Registration is now open for the iCan Kids Discovery College, which will be held in two sessions.

Cassia Rose wins ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº McGraw-Hill Poster Contest

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº held its ninth†annual McGraw-Hill Poster contest Friday, April 29. The event was held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts and featured research by 20 of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº?s most decorated scholars. The contest has become an annual test of creative research in Northeast Texas, funded in part by the McGraw-Hill Corporation, and judged by friends of the college, and Honors Northeast.

? A walking path is now cleared between IT and the Whatley Center

? A temporary sidewalk is being placed behind the Admin building in anticipation of upcoming renovations

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº receives gift to restore John Biggers mural

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from the East Texas Communities Foundation and the Burt and Nancy Marans Estate. Dr. Brad Johnson, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº President (right) and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Vice President for Advancement, are pictured receiving the donation. †The funds will be used to begin the restoration process for the Dr. John Biggers mural that will be relocated from Pewitt Elementary School to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center.

Dr. Tawny Nix gives scholarships

Dr. Tawny Nix, Director of the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Medical Assistant program, recently contributed $2,000 to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Foundation. The funds will provide scholarships to students majoring in Medical Assistant, Medical Coding or Health Informatics. She is pictured presenting the gift to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Vice President for Advancement. The Eagle student newspaper wins big at TIPA

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº?s newspaper, The Eagle, once again took home more than 20 awards from the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) conference.

Last†month, the journalism staff traveled to Dallas to represent The Eagle and the college?s literary magazine, Lagniappe.

This year, the journalism staff won a total of 22 awards including seven first place awards, a number of second and third place awards as well as honorable mentions in several other categories and two award
