Shaky cams, missed script deadlines, public objections to filming, stepped-on cable prongs, a lack of additional cash infusions, quarreling, inadequate time frames, actor resignations, poor sound?all these and more tend to rattle and decimate most aspiring film productions in the United States.† However, the scholars of Honors Northeast have returned from a Texas film site, knowing that their late hours, research, and experience acting again have come together, to produce the hours of footage needed for another original film.† This year?s subject is another Texas legend?the story of Mary Kay,

For the second year in a row, Texas Heritage National Bank has sponsored a full scholarship for a ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Presidential Scholar. Cassidy Watkins, of Daingerfield, has been named the 2017-2018 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar.

The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books for Watkins? sophomore year at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ.

?This kind of privately funded, full academic scholarship gives dynamic students like Watkins time advantages, and a route to leverage greater awards,? Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, said.

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has selected Chesney Davis to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.

A mechanical engineering major, Davis is a Priefert Manufacturing engineering intern, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Presidential Honors Scholar and the Texas Regional Vice President for Phi Theta Kappa.† In addition, Davis serves as a ?Supplemental Instruction?

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Art Department will host its first exhibit of the 2017-2018 school year September 5-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The show, ?Art from the Heart?, will feature graphite artwork by Maurya Beth Holland. A reception with the artist will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ will be closed Monday, Sept. 4 for the Labor Day holiday. We will resume our regular schedule and business hours on Tuesday. In case of an emergency on campus during the closure, please contact security at 903-563-1417.

For the 10th straight year,†Cypress Bank†has presented a MacBook computer for the use of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ honors students.†This year?s recipient is Jordan Whelchel.† He is a recent graduate of Daingerfield High School who already has become active in Honors film and Phi Theta Kappa activities at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ.†Whelchel plans to major in physics.
