The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Adult Education Department has partnered with Pittsburg ISD to make English as a Second Language (ESL) education more accessible to area residents. Classes are held at Pittsburg Primary School and Pittsburg High School.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Foundation recently received a $100,000 gift to establish the Charlie and Abbie Brown Memorial Scholarship. The endowment will provide scholarships for Mount Vernon High School graduates attending ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ and majoring in agriculture.

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ will host the chart-topping country music group Restless Heart Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature hits from the 80?s and 90?s like†Wheels, Big Dreams in a Small Town, Fast Movin? Train, I?ll Still be Loving You, The Bluest Eyes in Texas, and†Why Does It Have To Be Wrong Or Right.

It always seems strange to me that we call our semester that starts in January here at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ the ?spring?

The Mount Pleasant Fine Arts Club recently gave $500 to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Foundation. The funds will be used to provide a scholarship for an ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ student majoring in art, music or drama. The group has been contributing to scholarships since 1985 when the college first opened. They also presented a $25 honorarium to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Art Department. The club made the presentation while holding their club meeting on campus in the art lab. Carter BloodCare will be on campus Tuesday, January 31, 2017 conducting a blood drive. Please help save a life by donating blood! The blood drive bus will be located in the parking lot behind the Student Union Building from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Ron Clinton, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Executive Vice President for Instruction, will perform a solo piano recital on Sunday, Jan. 29 at†2:30 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.†Tickets to the concert are $15 for adults and $5 for children and ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ students with a current ID. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ students.

The concert will feature Beethoven?s Piano Sonata No. 9, Op. 14 No. 1; Chopin?s Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 52; Ravel?s Sonatine and Brahms? Piano Sonata No. 1 in C Major, Op. 1.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ is also accepting applications for its next evening academy, which begins March 13. Classes meet Monday-Thursday from 5-10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Honors Northeast, the honors program at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ, will premiere an original historical film Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The production, Sam Houston and the Fate of the Texas Cherokee, is the fifth film Honors Northeast has completed in the last five years.

The first week of classes can be a stressful time in the life of a college student. To help alleviate this stress, and to encourage students to meet new people, we have planned a Welcome Back Social for students, faculty and staff.
