Cassidy Watkins wins Chitsey Award

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ student, Cassidy Watkins, was recently named the winner of the 2016-2017 Chitsey Award, granted annually to the student of Honors Northeast who most exceeded expectations. Dr. Mary Hearron (right) recently presented Watkins with this $200 award.

Watkinswas the 2016 Salutatorian of Daingerfield High School.† She has excelled in her two honors seminars, and in her other ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ classes to date.† She is also the producer of the 2017 Honors film on Sam Houston, and the exodus of the Texas Cherokee.

Theatre Northeast to perform April 27-30

Theatre Northeast, the student theatre group of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ, will present variety of monologues, scenes, songs, dramatic readings and a short play on-stage in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts April 27-30. The Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:05 p.m.

College Store closed April 17-21

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ College Store will be closed April 17-21 while they move to their new location in the Student Union Building.†The copy center will also be closed. Outgoing mail will still be metered and a box will be placed in the Student Services mail room. Students may purchase scantrons, blue books and pencils in the Student Services building during the closure.

Nursing inducts 28 into Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Associate Degree Nursing program recently inducted 28 students into its Gamma Omicron Chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society. Alpha Delta Nu recognizes the academic excellence of students in the study of Associate Degree Nursing. The selective society requires that students have at least a 3.0 GPA in nursing classes and be recommended by faculty. The 2017 inductees are pictured above (from left). Woodmen of the World endow ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ scholarship in memory of Beau Brummell

The Woodmen of the World organization recently presented a check for $25,000 to the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Foundation.† These funds will be used to establish The Beau Brummell Woodmen of the World Endowed Scholarship, which will provide an annual scholarship for a local student attending ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ each year. The Beau Brummell Woodmen of the World Scholarship is in memory of Brummell, a very dedicated and longtime member of the Camp County Chapter of Woodmen of the World. Dr.

Honors Northeast accepting entries for poster contest

The ninth annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest is set for Friday, April 28 at 9:30 a.m. in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ. This contest recognizes and rewards creative student scholarship in Northeast Texas. Area high school seniors, college and university students are welcome to compete. Prizes range from $100 for fourth place to $400 for first place. Up to 20 community judges will determine a project?s contribution to scholarship, its persuasiveness and the quality of the poster?s overall appearance.

Honors Northeast publishes record number of essays in state historical journal

The 2017 issue of Touchstone, the collegiate journal of the Texas State Historical Association released this spring, contains a record three essays by current ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Presidential Scholars. All three were prize-winning works.†They included Emmalea Shaw?s Caldwell-Award-winning essay on integration in Northeast Texas, William Jones?

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Art Department will present its Annual Student Art Show April 12-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A reception will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Whatley Foyer. The show will feature student work in a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics and more. Army Jazz Ambassadors to perform free concert at Whatley Center

The internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, DC will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when it appears at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jazz Ambassadors is the official touring big band of the United States Army.
