The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Board of Trustees held a special meeting Thursday to accept the resignation of Dr. Brad Johnson. Johnson asked the board to release him from his contract so he can accept a new position as Vice President for Strategic Relationships at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.

Dr. Johnson explained that the change will provide both personal and professional opportunities.

Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan receive Texas STAR Scholarships

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº students Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan received recognition as Texas STAR Scholars at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Schreiner?s University July 21-23. They were two of eleven recipients from throughout the state of Texas.† Both serve as Vice-Presidents of Alpha Mu Chi, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº?s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Both are Presidential Scholars in Honors Northeast.

The Adult Education Department at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº is accepting new†and returning†students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs†should call to make an appointment for registration and/or testing.†While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

Honors Northeast seeks entries for poetry contest

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº and Honors Northeast†recently†announced a call for original poems to enter the annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest.The judges will be looking for poems that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas. Adult winners will take home $200 and $50 for first and second place.

Robert Arellano Foundation gives $2,000 for scholarships

Did you know that ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº offers opportunities for non-ag majors to get their hands in the dirt? The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Ag Department offers three courses that students can take to satisfy core curriculum requirements for their degree, in addition to teaching important agricultural life skills.

Students in some majors can take Agronomy (AGRI 1307), the study of pastures and crops, Horticulture (AGRI 1315), the study of plants/gardening, or Animal Science (AGRI 1319), the study of farm animals to satisfy the core science requirement.

Two ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº graduates named 2017 Terry Scholars

Two ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº graduates, Ryan-Rose Mendoza and Melody Mott, were named 2017 Terry Scholars and received the prestigious Terry Transfer Scholarship. Selection is based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and financial need. Recipients also must have applied and been accepted to a Terry Affiliated University within the state of Texas.

The Terry Scholarship Program was born of Howard and Nancy Terry?s desire to help young people help themselves. The Terrys believed, in the long term, that a university ? like the state it represents ?
