Two Presidential Scholars win essay awards

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Presidential Scholars Isaac Burris and Morgan Capps both received top awards during the recent meeting of the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA)† in Corpus Christi.

At a session of the Walter Webb Society on March 7, the collegiate auxiliary of the TSHA, Capps won second†place and $300 for her essay on Ma and Pa Ferguson, a Texas gubernatorial couple during the early 20th century.† Isaac Burris won fourth†place and $75 for his essay on the dynamics of Sam Houston?s friendship with his slave, Jeff Hamilton.

Stars from one of America's favorite TV talent shows are coming to ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº. American Stars In Concert Celebrate Motown will feature four†American Idol†Stars live in concert Thursday, March 26 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.

Ron Clinton to perform piano concert


Dr. Ron Clinton, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Executive Vice President for Instruction, will perform a solo piano recital on Sunday, March 22 at†2:30 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.†Tickets to the concerts are $10 for adults and $5 for children and ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº students with a current ID. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº students.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Foundation recently received an anonymous $6,000 donation to sponsor six students in the new ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Work Scholarship Program. Nita May (left), ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Director of Development, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Vice President for Advancement, accepted the gift on behalf of the Foundation. The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Culinary Arts Program will host a †public Spring Supper Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m. This event will be held at the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Culinary Arts School in historic downtown Pittsburg and is open to the public.


The meal is first-come-first-served and no reservations will be accepted. The cost is $12 per person.

Dr. Jim Archer, a retired ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº professor, was installed as president by outgoing president, Judy Weiss. Other officers elected included Jane Scharlach, Vice President and Rick Nelson, Secretary.†The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Foundation is a non-profit corporation that was established in 1984.
