��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ was well represented at the recent meeting of the Texas Webb Society in San Marcos. Honors Northeast Scholars won two of the four freshman-sophomore division awards for scholarship.† Jazmin Garcia of Mount Pleasant placed third in the state, and won $150 for her essay on Texas First Lady, Mildred Moody.†Rhylie Anderson?s essay placed fourth.†She received $75 for her essay on the ?Politics of Futility,?

Madison Lee Blood was recently named the winner of the 2018 Chitsey Award, granted each year to the student of Honors Northeast who most exceeded expectations.† Blood received a $200 check and certificate.† The former Big Sandy Valedictorian impressed all of her professors in her first semester at ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ as fastidious, hard-working, and astute.† Her work on the emancipation of horses from war-pawns and draft slaves, to ?Black Beauty?

Honors Northeast, the honors program at ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ, is currently accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year.

Sometime after midnight last Friday night, the last of three vans returned to ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ with Honors students, completing the second of two bi-annual culture/reward trips for this academic year.† This also was the 22^nd†semester trip taken by Honors Northeast since it began in 2007.† According to Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, there has been one decisive factor behind all of these trips: the generosity of Drs.

Two previously homeschooled scholars, Hannah Joy Dickson, and Matthew Frank Chambers, are recent winners of the†Richard, and Joan Eckman Awards for Excellence in Honors.†† These awards are presented biannually to each of the scholars of the two honors seminars at ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ who maintain the highest seminar grade-point averages.† Each received a $100 check courtesy of an anonymous donor and friend of ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ.

Both Dickson, and Chambers have made other contributions to the college and community.

Honors Northeast and the local Webb Society will hold a premiere of the new original historical film Smoldering Wick: the Story of Mary Kay on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation recently named five students at ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ as semi-finalists for their highly competitive and elite Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Rachel Jordan, Adriana Rodriquez and Cassidy Watkins were included in the list.

Their applications were among more than 2,800 submitted by students across the nation. Only 20 percent of applicants made it to semifinalist status.

Four ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ students learned yesterday that they are semi-finalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Adriana Rodriguez and Cassidy Watkins were all named for the honor.†Finalists will receive a scholarship worth $40,000 for up to three years - a $120,000 value!

For the 10^th year in a row, members of Honors Northeast, the honors program at ��ɫ����������ƵӰԺ, have presented scholarly work at the annual meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).
