Faculty mentoring and the promotion of student research at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ have dovetailed in recent years with the determination of an alumna to reward top student essays in American history.† Bonnie Spencer, an ICU Nurse at the Titus Regional Medical Center, initiated ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ?s first History Club in 2002.† She also helped transition its descendant, the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Webb Society, into its film series in 2012.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Board of Trustees swore in three members for new terms at the regular May meeting Tuesday night. Governor Bill Ratliff swore in fellow members Sondra Fowler, Sid Greer and Dr. Dan McCauley, who all kept their places on the board after being unopposed for a May election. Fowler, who serves in Place Three on the board, was elected to finish out the last two unexpired years of her term, which she was appointed to after John Bryan retired from the board last year. Greer (Place Four) and McCauley (Place Seven) will serve full six-year terms.

The Adult Education Department at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ is accepting new†students for its GED (General Equivalency Diploma) and ESL/Citizenship Fast Track classes.†Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs†should call to make an appointment for registration. †While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at†105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ†Continuing†Education†department is offering a†variety of learning opportunities this summer. Whether you are interested in taking a class for personal enrichment or you?d like to gain new job skills, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ has classes to fit your needs. Customized training is also available for businesses and groups. Registration is fast and easy. The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Foundation recently received a $10,000 donation from the Gloria Norwood estate. The funds established the Bradley Syd Norwood Memorial Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to students in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program. Gloria, who was a resident of Naples, planned the gift in her will. Her late son, Bradley, attended the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Automotive Program in the early 1990s. The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Adult Education Program honored six deserving†General Equivalency Diploma (GED) students during its recent GED Graduation ceremony by inducting them into the National Adult Education Honor Society†(NAEHS).†Those inducted were: (from left): Emily Postlethwait of Winnsboro, Christina Netro of Pittsburg, Roxanna Garcia of Mount Pleasant,†Jacqueline Fernandez of Mount Pleasant,†Courtney Hopson of Mount Vernon and Alicyson Mattaboni of Winnsboro.

Jose A. Gil Castro of Mount Pleasant was recently†presented with the J. Travis Jackson†GED†Scholarship during the†2018 GED graduation ceremony hosted by the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Adult Education Department.†This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County. The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles Baseball team just missed out a trip to the JUCO World Series Wednesday after a heartbreaking 8-7 loss against San Jacinto College in the Region 14 championship game.

After going scoreless in the first inning, both teams? strong offenses got fired up in the second. San Jac scored two and ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ answered with a three-run homer by Matt Scheurich to take the lead. San Jac managed to tie things up in the third and take a brief lead in the top of the fourth as they added one more.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagles Baseball team picked up its first loss of the Region 14 tournament Tuesday night after falling 9-3 to San Jacinto College. The Eagles will play San Jacinto again at 1 p.m. Wednesday to determine which team is headed to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Both teams got on the board early, with two runs apiece in the first inning. ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ's runs came from back-to-back homers by Taylor Barber and Kyle Moos.
