The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº) Softball team made the journey to the Alamo city to open the season. The Eagles faced off against the Butler Grizzlies in game one of the tournament. Despite two home runs by the Eagles, they would fall to the Grizzlies 6-4. Pearl Perry (Hughes Springs, Texas) went deep in the third inning, and Kendal Wiley (Quitman, Texas) hit a solo shot in the 7th inning to help power the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº offense. Emily Cole (Naples, Texas) went the distance in the circle in game one, earning one strike out and gave up 6 hits in the game.
ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº students Courtney Baldwin, Jazmin Garcia, Daniel Landaverde, Verania Leyva-Garcia, and Andrea Reyes were all named semi-finalists in the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Transfer Scholarship competition. The Jack Kent Cooke scholarship is worth $40,000 a year for up to three years, for a total scholarship value of $120,000.
On Tuesday 25 February, from 12:15 to 1:15 PM in the Community Room of the Mount Pleasant Library, 601 North Madison, three members of Honors Northeast will present original essays on regional themes. An anonymous donor will provide pizza, salad, and drinks, especially to those who email Dr. Andrew Yox ahead of time, at <ayox@ntcc.edu>--during the presentations. The event is free and open to the public.

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº students Mercedes Collins, Tonya Hammonds, Jacob Lambie, and Daniel Landaverde recently learned that they had been named semi-finalists for Phi Theta Kappa’s Fall Common Scholarship Competition. The Fall Common Scholarships include the All USA Community College Academic Team, Coca-Cola Scholars, Guistwhite, and Hites Scholarships.
Every year the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Faculty Senate awards one or more scholarships to students who reside in Texas, have at least 15 semester hours, and are NOT receiving scholarship assistance above $500.00. The awards are funded by donation and payroll deductions from current and previous ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº faculty members for students to finish their education at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.
The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Art Department will host an exhibit featuring paintings by Gary Perrone Friday, Feb. 7 through Wednesday, Feb. 26. A reception with the artist is will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer gallery. Refreshments will be served.
In this the 8th cinematic premiere of a story from the Texas past in as many years, Honors Northeast, and the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Webb Society will feature the story of Adina De Zavala. She was the granddaughter of Texas’ First Vice President, Lorenzo De Zavala. She and her San Antonio Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas played the pivotal role in re-centering and Catholicizing the nature of Texas patriotism in the early twentieth-century. The movie, at 7PM on Friday, 21 February at the Whatley Center of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº is free, and the public is invited. The script is based on an original interpretation of the De Zavala story pursued by the scholars of Honors Northeast. Thanks to the patrons of Honors Northeast, there will also be free refreshments after the film, and a panel discussion led by student actors and directors of the feature-length production.
