Introduction to the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Includes all the knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an EMS public or private service fire department or other specialized service areas. Certification Agencies: National Registry of EMT's and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Instruction providing detailed education training and work-based experience and direct patient/client care generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical instruction supervision evaluation and placement is the responsibility of the College faculty. Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. Course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. (Fall Spring Summer)

Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course is designed for the pre-hospital professional.

A study of medical terminology, word origin, structure, and application with an emphasis on building a professional vocabulary required for employment within the allied health care field. Analyze word origin and structure through prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations, and symbols; and apply critical thinking skills when communicating medical terminology of human anatomy and physiology, disease disorders, and procedures.

An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. (Fall)

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills required to reach competence in performing patient assessment and airway management. (Fall)

A comprehensive course covering all aspects of the utilization of medications in treating emergency situations. Course is designed to complement Cardiology Special Populations and Medical Emergency courses. (Fall)

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with cardiac emergencies. (Spring)

A health-related work-based experience that enables students to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision by the clinical professional and EMS faculty.

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of ill or injured patients in nontraditional populations. (Spring)

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with medical emergencies. (Spring)

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with traumatic injuries. (Summer)

A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence to safely manage the scene of an emergency. (Summer)

The capstone course of the EMSP program. Designed to provide for teaching and evaluating comprehensive assessment-based patient care management. (Summer)

Application of emergency medical procedures in the pre-hospital setting.

Practical general training and experiences in the workplace. The College in conjunction with the employer develops and documents an individualized plan for the student. The plan relates the workplace training and experiences to the student's general and technical course of study. The guided external experiences shall be unpaid. (Fall)

Introduces and develops foundational skills in applying essential and emerging business productivity information technology tools. The focus of this course is on business productivity software applications including word processing spreadsheets databases presentation graphics data analytics and business-oriented utilization of the internet.

This is a first course in statistics with topics that span collection analysis presentation and interpretation of data and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics correlation and regression confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. (Fall Spring Summer)

Intensive study of and practice in professional settings. Focus on the types of documents necessary to make decisions and take action on the job such as proposals reports instructions policies and procedures email messages letters and descriptions of products and services. Practice individual and collaborative processes involved in the creation of ethical and efficient documents.
