Alison Averie Majors wins the 2024 Chitsey Award

Alison Averie Majors was recently named the winner of the 2024 Chitsey Award, granted each year to the student of Honors Northeast who most exceeded expectations during their first year at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.  The award comes with a $200 check.

Biology students continue parasite research

Dr. Chris McAllister (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº-Biology) and his independent study students, George Burrows and Michael Rodriguez, visited the Fountain Spring House of the Ouachita Mountains Biological Station on April 25-28 near Mena, Arkansas, to conduct their ongoing research on vertebrate parasites.

Student Services hosts Scholarship Awards Ceremony

The Student Services team at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº was pleased to host a Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 30th in collaboration with Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Scholarships for ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº students who have applied and been accepted to attend TAMU-T were awarded on the recommendation of their ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº College Navigator.  ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº College Navigators chose students from their assigned cohorts who they had worked closely with to assist in the pursuit of their Associates Degree while at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.

Cosmetology Club wins Taste of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº: Battle of the Booths

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Taste of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº: Battle of the Booths event was a huge success! Ten booths served up a variety of delicious dishes for sampling by a large crowd of students, faculty, staff and community members.  The event raised almost $2,400 that was split evenly between the participating clubs and organizations. 

Each ticket holder was able to cast votes for their favorite booths. The winners of the People’s Choice awards were as follows:

Culinary Arts partners with local restaurants for series of couples cooking classes

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Culinary Arts Program is pleased to announce an exciting series of couples cooking classes that will be held this May-June. ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº is partnering with local restaurants to offer participants the chance to learn how to prepare some of their most popular dishes directly from the chefs who create them.

Eagle Baseball makes postseason tournament

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº baseball team has solidified the third-place position in Region 14 North of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Eagles will finish up conference play with two games this weekend against Navarro College at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº weather permitting Saturday, May 4th.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Board of Trustees met for its regular April meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd. The first order of business was the presentation of the Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award. Jennifer Sparks presented the award to Monica Graves on behalf of the faculty. Graves teaches Learning Frameworks for ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.
