Angelica Fuentes receives Guistwhite Scholarship
Angelica Fuentes, a sophomore at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ, recently learned that she has received the prestigious 2016 Phi Theta Kappa Guistwhite Scholarship. Her†selection was based on the score she earned in the Guistwhite Scholarship Competition, for which over 1,800 applications were received.
ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ students named to 2016 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team
Two ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ students were recently named to the 2016 Coca-Cola College Academic Team. Isaac Burris was named a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar and Morgan Capps was named a Coca-Cola Gold Silver Scholar.†The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually.
Bonnie Spencer offers prize for history essays

Honors Northeast accepting applications
The Honors Program of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ is accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year. The deadline to apply is March 1. High School seniors in the top tenth of their class are welcome to apply, as well as ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ students with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Honors Northeast combines challenging seminars of key core curricular classes, with opportunities for advanced mentoring, student travel, interscholastic competition, publications and community service.
Honors Northeast promotes scholars
The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Honors Committee recently promoted Hector Zuniga, an ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ sophomore from Mount Pleasant, from the title of Honors Scholar to Presidential Scholar. Zuniga won the citation for Academic Excellence in last fall?s Biotex Honors Seminar and has maintained a 4.0 GPA at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ.†The Biotex seminar is composed each fall of entering honors students, and Zuniga won the top rank.†Honors Northeast also admitted two additional Honors Scholars - Kassandra†Martinez and Ryan-Rose Mendoza.

Honors Northeast to premiere new historical film
The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Webb Society and Honors Northeast Present will premiere their new original film†Two for One: The Story of Ma and Pa Ferguson on†Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in the†Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.
Jim ?Pa" Ferguson came to power by backing tenant farmers and avoiding the issue of alcohol.
Honors Northeast attends NCHC meeting in Chicago
Five sophomore ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Honors students, in addition to Honors professors Dr. Mary Hearron and Dr. Andrew Yox,†recently†represented ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ at the 50th Anniversary meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) in Chicago. The NCHC is the premier association of honors programs and honors colleges in the nation. ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ is the only community college to have featured scholarly student presenters at the yearly NCHC continuously since 2008.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ chapter of the Walter Webb Society recently presented work at the group's statewide fall meeting in Galveston. The focus of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ's presentation was their upcoming film on Texas†governors Ma and Pa Ferguson.
