Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas will host the annual SMART Girls Conference on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ. SMART Girls (Science, Math And Related Technology) provides girls between the ages of 11 and 15 access to dynamic women in SMART careers.

The keynote speaker will be Leslie Denman. She loves to motivate and empower women and girls. Denman openly shares her struggles, victories and faith with young girls to inspire them to Dream Big! She is a mentor to young people and an encourager to women.

Former ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Eagle Baseball player Matt Durst is having a great summer in the Valley Baseball League. Playing for the Charles Town Cannons, Durst was named D-Bat Player of the Week on Monday, June 17. According to a ,†Durst played in six games that week and recorded at least one hit in five of them. He finished the week batting .409 (9-for-22) with two double, a triple and a home run. The rising junior at Southern Mississippi added eight RBIs, four runs, a sacrifice fly and a stolen base.
