Travel to George W Bush Library with ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº

Want to get away for a day? Consider joining the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Continuing Education Department on a travel excursion to the George W. Bush Library in Dallas. The trip is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24 and will include round-trip travel to Dallas by motor coach and the cost of admission.


The coach will leave from the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg at 7 a.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $60 for adults, $55 for seniors (62 and older), and $55 for high school and college students.

Stephen Milburn wins STAR Scholarship

Stephen Milburn, a ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº student from Mount Pleasant, was one of six recipients of the Dr. Mary Hood STAR Scholarship.† The scholarship honors returning community college students in the Texas region who show outstanding promise as leaders and as scholars.† The recipients were announced at the recent Texas Honors Institute held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX and recognized onstage.

Eagles host co-ed softball tourney

Teams needed for co-ed softball tournament!


The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Eagles Softball team will host the first†annual†Coed Slowpitch Tournament on†September 14, 2013 at the Heritage Park fields in Mount Pleasant. †The entry fee is $150 per team in this 7/3 co-ed tournament. Games will be timed at 55 minutes with the championship game lasting a full seven innings.

Fredia Thomas completes Leadership Excellence Academy



Fredia Thomas, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôºâ€ TEAMS and Adult Education Student Retention Specialist, recently completed the Leadership Excellence Academy (LEA) and is now a Certified Manager in Program Improvement (CMPI). This certification is the first of its kind in the adult education and literacy field and signifies†national†membership in an elite group of professional managers.




Thomas, of Daingerfield, began working in Adult Education at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº as a student†worker.†She has been with the department for 23 years.

Free GED, ESL classes offered

The Adult Education Department at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº (ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº) will offer free General Education Development (GED) classes and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at various locations throughout the area this fall. All students must in enroll in an orientation session before beginning classes.†The GED exam is changing in January 2014. At that time, all students seeking a GED will be required to complete the entire new test.

Hall holds state office for Phi Theta Kappa

Ashley Hall, a member of the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter, is currently serving as a state officer for the Phi Theta Kappa Organization. Hall, of Leesburg, was elected to the office of District III Vice President of the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa during the spring 2013 semester. In this role, she serves on the Texas Regional Officer team and represents 18 colleges in the Northeast Texas region. She is also responsible for planning and attending statewide events.

The sixth-annual reading of the Northeast Texas Poetry Contest will be held on†Friday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº.†

The two adult and four student winners will read their poems and receive awards.
