Alpha Mu Chi, the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, hosted its Spring induction ceremony April 4 in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Speakers at the event included ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ president, Dr. Brad Johnson and Chesney Davis, incoming PTK Texas Regional Vice-President for District III. In addition to inducting new members, the incoming officer team was also sworn in and outgoing officers gave their farewells. Inductees are pictured above.

The Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program at ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ will host a Carroll Shelby Memorial Cruise event Saturday, May 6. The event will be held at the Shelby Automotive Technology Building on the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ campus beginning at 9 a.m.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Faculty Senate held its 25^th Annual Student Awards Banquet†Thursday night at the Region 8 service center. This annual event allows the faculty to acknowledge exceptional students and alumni for their contributions to ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ and beyond.

The President?s Academic Excellence Award recognizes students who have excelled academically. Those receiving this award included:

Alpha Mu Chi, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ?s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, successfully campaigned for the Texas Region District III Vice-President position at the regional convention earlier this spring. After the chapter won the position, elections were held within the chapter to determine which member would represent the chapter. Chesney Davis won that election and will represent the chapter as Vice President.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ College Store will be closed April 17-21 while they move to their new location in the Student Union Building.†The copy center will also be closed. Outgoing mail will still be metered and a box will be placed in the Student Services mail room. Students may purchase scantrons, blue books and pencils in the Student Services building during the closure.

The ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ Associate Degree Nursing program recently inducted 28 students into its Gamma Omicron Chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society. Alpha Delta Nu recognizes the academic excellence of students in the study of Associate Degree Nursing. The selective society requires that students have at least a 3.0 GPA in nursing classes and be recommended by faculty. The 2017 inductees are pictured above (from left). Springfest Week is a great†opportunity for students to confirm and celebrate their decision to attend†ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ. The week also provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy conversations that will lead to relationship building outside of the classroom.

Texas A&M University-Texarkana will host a PLACE lecture (Program for Learning and Community Engagement) on the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ campus March 30 at 12:30 p.m. in UHS 221. The lecture "Great War, Great Dilemma: The Treatment of Pacifists and the Lesson of the Power of One" will be conducted by our very own Dr. Melissa Fulgham. Free pizza and drinks will be provided.

Alpha Mu Chi, the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓƵӰԺ chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, received 20 awards at the Texas Regional Convention in Corpus Christi, March 9-11.
