Andrew Yox named President-Elect of Great Plains Honors Council

ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº professor Andrew Yox of Mount Pleasant has been named President-Elect of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC). Yox was chosen to serve by his peers and will assume his new role at the annual GPHC conference at West Texas A&M University this April 5-7. He will begin his term as President in November 2013.†




Yox teaches history and is the founding director of the ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Honors program, which was established in 2007. The GPHC is a non-profit association of 80 honors programs and colleges from several states. It is a regional branch of the National Collegiate Honors Council. Yox has served on the GPHC board since 2009.†




"The GPHC on a regional level is like an honors program on the local level," Yox said. "It defines standards of achievement, inspires a merit dynamic among students, and encourages creativity. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as a visible leader of the GPHC. This opens doors for our students transferring to university honors programs."†




Since 2008, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Honors has won six Boe awards, the preeminent cash prize of the GPHC for student research.†Competing in the freshman-sophomore division, ÂÒÉ«ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞÊÓÆµÓ°Ôº Honors has won more Boe Awards than any other institution in the GPHC since the awards were first given in 2008.
